Dog Agility
So...my sister received the dog-loving gene; I did not. Which works out really well because she has three dogs and we have none. She has gotten involved in training her dogs in agility and Peter and I were able to go watch her last competition.
Titus, her male Australian Shepherd, was entered into two different competitions...and won first in both!! Yeah, Titus!! I just had to post the pictures that I took of their second competition because I thought they were just that cool.
I must say I am just SO impressed with my sister for getting involved in something that she absolutely LOVES and something in which we, as children, were never involved. I am discovering that it can be a bit difficult to step outside of our comfort zones and begin something new. This area of life is just so different from the swim teams and basketballs with which we grew up and, yet, if I can say, she has found her niche (just one of many).
Congrats sis, love that you love what you do!

Albuquerque Century

This past Saturday (June 6, 2009) Peter rode in his second century (approximately 104 miles). He's been hard-core training since January and did all the better for it. He improved his time and felt really good after the ride...tired, but good!
This is the picture from last year's race, which just so happens to be our first pregnancy photo (before we knew we were pregnant) :)

This year Allister and I were at the finish line to cheer Peter on! Allister wore a onesie with Peter's race number "pinned" to the back

....about him
I'm not really sure why, but over the past couple days I have really been missing my grandfather. ...so I decided to write about him.
Joe McFarland, or more affectionately known as PawPaw, died Saturday, February 28th after 81 years of life. Because of the events occurring in my own life, like being overdue for a week by that point and expecting Allister at any moment, I was, not only, unable to attend the funeral alongside the rest of my mom's family, but I was also unable to really mourn the loss.
PawPaw had been in and out of the hospital over the previous months and seemed to have come to peace with his pending date with our Lord. Somewhat selfishly, I like to think that he was trying to wait for Allister to show up before he left us.
I was asked soon after his death, "Are there any regrets?" When asked, I was reminded of the many unique opportunities I had with him. My PawPaw and I had many memories together. As a child, I would spend my East Texas vacations fishing for catfish at his side. We took many road trips from East Texas to Albuquerque and back during my highschool and university days...of course I was the chauffeur! He attended my high school graduation, a number of my basketball games during highschool and university, and he was a part of my wedding.
Over the past three years, Peter and I spent a few days every March going to the Waffle House or Jims with him. One of those visits he even drove us around the entire Caddo Lake area showing us his mail route and telling us his war stories. This year was the first year since being married that we were unable to go.
I remember calling him up and telling him we were having a baby boy...he was so excited for us. I remember calling him up and telling him about Peter and being reminded that PawPaw had to approve before I married him. :) I remember...so many memories.
Here's to my grandpa...I love him so much and he is missed. I look forward to seeing him again!
